Wifredo Lam: Considerations on the Creative Spirit La conferencia propone un recorrido por la vida y la evolución artística de Wifredo Lam (1902–1982), explorando las distintas etapas de su trayectoria y los países en los que vivió y trabajó. A través de sus obras, se abordará cómo el artista incorporó y transformó los lenguajes del cubismo y el surrealismo, estableciendo un diálogo entre la figuración y la abstracción. Asimismo, se analizarán las dimensiones culturales, espirituales y políticas de su producción, especialmente su vínculo con las tradiciones de la diáspora africana en Cuba y el Caribe. Desde sus primeros años en Cuba y su formación en España hasta su relación con los surrealistas y su posterior desarrollo artístico, la conferencia permitirá acercarse a la riqueza y diversidad de su universo creativo. Wifredo Lam: Considerations on the Creative Spirit This lecture explores the life and artistic evolution of Wifredo Lam (1902–1982), tracing the different stages of his career and the countries in which he lived and worked. Through his works, the presentation examines how Lam adapted and transformed the languages of Cubism and Surrealism, bridging the boundaries between figuration and abstraction. The lecture also addresses the cultural, spiritual, and political dimensions of his art, particularly his engagement with traditions rooted in the African diaspora in Cuba and the Caribbean. From his early years in Cuba and his artistic development in Spain to his connections with the Surrealists and his later artistic evolution, the presentation offers an exploration of the richness and diversity of Lam’s creative vision.
